HISTORY In 1867, when the mill was built, it had only one main two storey room. The "lower" oak wheel, powered by the water from the river "Ruth", was 5.20 m in diameter, and used to drive 3 flint millstones. In the early 1900’s, an extension was added to the original building in order to shelter a steam-machine, that could counter-balanced the shortage of water during the low-water season. The lower part of the brick chimney stack can still be seen outside the building today. During the 1920’s and 30’s, the mill followed technical improvements. It was fitted with new flour-milling equipment, and the steam-machine was replaced by a gas-producer. But remaining competitive proved harder and harder. On the eve of the second world war, the flour production reached 5150 quintals. Soon overhelmed by large industrial mills, like most of the others local mills, it stopped its activities in 1954. |
